About Us

The Waffle House is a third-generation family business, founded in Norwich in 1978. We specialise in fresh-made sweet and savoury Brussels waffles, cooked individually to order using many organic and free-range ingredients, and served with warm, attentive table service across two characterful sites in Hertfordshire.

St Albans — Kingsbury Watermill

Our St Albans home has been at the heart of the business since 1982, set within the 16th century, Grade II listed Kingsbury Watermill, overlooking the River Ver in the tranquil Conservation Area of St Albans. The mill sits at the lower end of the beautiful Verulamium Park, which offers walks, sports facilities, a children’s play area and a large lake home to many species of birds.

Verulamium Museum, the Roman Hypocaust and the Amphitheatre are all a short walk away through St Michaels village, and St Albans Abbey stands at the opposite end of the park. The historic Fishpool Street, lined with fine period buildings, runs from the city centre past the Abbey down to St Michaels village.

We have outdoor seating available alongside our indoor dining, walk-ins are welcome at any time, and we take bookings from 4pm onwards.

Harpenden — Yew Tree Cottage

Our Harpenden site opened in August 2024, occupying Yew Tree Cottage, a charming former doctor’s surgery on Leyton Road. The building is home to nine individual dining spaces of varying sizes, all decorated in keeping with the cottage’s character and designed to support a relaxed, unhurried dining experience.

To the front of the building, a pretty garden provides a welcoming outdoor seating area, perfect for warmer days.

Walk-ins are welcome at any time, and we take bookings throughout the day, seven days a week.
